Inverness technologies Supports Prince William County Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Initiative

February 9, 2004

Inverness Technologies has been selected to support Prince William County in preparing to implement the HIPAA Security Standard. Several PWC agencies handle medical information for their community (including the Health Department, Community Services Board, Department of Social Services, Agency on Aging, Adult Detention Center, and Fire and Rescue). In addition, PWC handles its own employee health insurance. In preparation for implementation of the HIPAA Security Standard in April 2005, Inverness is assisting PWC to identify the security risks that exist with regard to Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) and to develop recommendations to eliminate or mitigate these risks. An important aspect of this effort is the identification and evaluation of technologies that can assist with HIPAA compliance. Through this effort, Inverness will assist PWC to:

  1. Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all ePHi

  2. Protect against any reasonably anticipated threats to the security or integrity of the data

  3. Protect against any reasonably anticipated prohibited uses or disclosures of the data

  4. Ensure staff compliance with these regulations

Inverness Technologies' combined expertise in security, business process reengineering, technology assessment, and healthcare was the basis for our selection to participate in this important effort.
